Residing In:    Austin, TX USA

Spouse/Partner:    Nancy, from Fresno. We met in Germany.

Occupation:    window repair, installation, service

Children:    Tucker 26 engaged, Taylor 24 and married, Tate 22 senior in education at Whitworth, Austyn 20 soph in chemical engineering at Tulsa University

Birthday:    August 24, 1951

School Story:    What's with Nick Damian and PE shorts? He pulled his down at football practice right when I was putting my hands "under center." Then he pulled my shorts down to my ankles in the gym when I was talking to Margo. I looked like a red Christmas tree light from head to toe by the time they were back up. (Don't act like you don't think about that a couple times a week, Margo ;^). )

That's me on your left in the blue shirt. Son Tucker, wife and youngest daughter Austyn on back. Austyn is a soph at Tulsa U. Tate and Taylor in front. Tate is a senior, Tay is married.

All dressed up for the meeting. They were celebrating completion of a church building. People from several different communities come to share in the work, including the bolillos.

The people of Barco sent us home warmly. Very small, primitive, with a small boat the only access across the river. The first language is Nahuatl, but most also speak Spanish.

This is a common native dwelling in Barco. Some are upgrading with cinder block as they are able.

Cuban village boys playing with tops. A lot of the folks there have Russian names, which is kind of freaky at first. "Excuse me, Vladimir???" LOL

This is a witch on the main square in Havana. I think she likes me. Of course she was pissed that I didn't give her a dollar for the picture and kiss. Maybe she cursed me after I left.

horse drawn taxi in Cuba, Santa Clara maybe? The sign says 'solo Cristo salva.' It's owned by a member of an undergroud church there. They have an amazing vitality and community.

This is Hemmingway's hang out in Havana. He had Mohitos at one place, and something else at another. Google the quote, I'm too lazy.

The museum of the revolutionion in Havana. It has Castros boat, a plane.

The day of a pour in the Huastecas, MX. Notice the table of freshly plucked chickens in the background as the cement is mixing full speed. Great dinner!! I think the town was Taxicho.

Yours truly standing on the hand made (with machetes) ramp used to carry the buckets of cement to pour on the roof. When I saw them building it I said I'd never carry cement up it. We were on it 6 and 7 at a time!

Japanese dinner night with international students at the house. We host an "English conversation club" and have lots of fun.

Japanese dinner night food: sushi, lettuce wraps with spicy meat.......yumm

last afternoon of basketball in the park at San Miguel de Allende, Mx. Good guys, good players.

Teaching international students to sail on Lake Travis. The boat is useful again after the kids have left the house.

OK, I'll go down hard (by that I mean at full speed), gracefully, with a smile for all the good times.

Hey Mike, hope your birthday was everything you thought it would be at 59!  I have a few more good months before my 59, but already I am feeling the pressure.  :)  My brother, Larry, turned 61 this year and I told him he was sure getting old - but then he reminded me I wasn't  so far behind! Keeping everything in perspective and me in my place!  Looking forward to wishing you all the best when you turn 60 also.  Rock on!

Thanks, David.  We have a daughter teaching in Guatemala, and we visited her this Spring.  We climbed an active volcano with lava flowing.  Three people died on it a month ago or so, from a sudden eruption.  I'm going into Mexico, to the Huastecas, on a mission trip over labor day.  Our youngest is starting her senior year in chemical engineering.  I'm exercising some, playing a little tennis, and grateful for so many things.  Have a good one and stay in touch.

Mike, thanks for the update. The mission to the Huastecas sounds exciting. Take care and stay off of volcanoes (?) :)
